Yes what happened just STINKS

John Cullen here I would like to share my knowledge of how this all happened as I and others were keeping a an eye on this property. It is my understanding that Villa`s of Roanoke bought this property dirt cheap from the Wiegart family. Mrs. Wiegart ran the little market on Sound ave next to the liquor store for many years. Villa`s of Roanoke have a way of finding these deals then sell them to the county for quick doubles, (twice the paid price) and the county preserves the property. This happened recently when Villa`s of Roanoke purchased the farm on Roanoke Ave on the South East corner of the traffic light on Sound Ave. I was in contact with Legislator Al Krupski about this property on SSR, I went to a Suffolk county Legislators meeting and asked the county to buy this property The county was ready to buy this parcel and Villa`s was ready to sell to the county for preservation. Now comes the problem as we all know that during the Covid pandemic homes, and property values spiked up drastically and the offer that the county came with was denied due to the property recent value spike. We asked if the county would be willing to come up with a new deal for Villa`s and they said it takes over a year and sometimes 2 years to have the property appraised and what ever they do to come up with a proper value. Unfortunately Villa`s did not want to wait for this new number, and the county probably still would be below what was wanted for the property. I saw the blue-prints for these homes over a year ago, as they need to be done by Villa`s before the county will listen to an offer. A water test on the property is also needed as you may remember a trail up across from Al Wicklunds property last year. What happened up there while you were gone was a tragedy and the timing was just horrible. My personal feeling is that the Pandemic is why all those homes will be built there and greed. On another note you may not know, is that the county has purchased Adam & Eve Kaplans farm and will be preserved for life. Chris & Eve will still be working the farm but they were nice enough to take what the county offered. I hope this helps John Cullen

Thanks for the explanation, John. When property values surged, we had to know this was the likely outcome.

What's disturbing now is that the Town allowed them to cut down every tree. They could have left a buffer.
