The Holidays are coming!

As you may recall, NBCA members have, for the past few years, provided Holiday support to the group home on Sound Shore Road, run by the organization R.I.S.E. Life Services. They also run a day program on our street, and we provide holiday support for 2 of their clients who lack family support.

It has recently come to our attention that there is another home in our neighborhood, on Henry Lewis Dr., run by East End Disabilities Associates. We would like to help them also.

We also hope to support our friends and neighbors and Johanna's Hope, Inc. with a financial donation in celebration of the holiday season.

All three nonprofits have informative websites if you would like to learn more about each. 

I have been communicating with staff at each so that we can start our shopping and giving earlier this year.  I am making a cardboard "wish tree" that will be on my porch from this coming Friday on.  The wishes are on the tree as ornaments. Please take one and write in pencil on the tree whose you took.   Each resident has one wish item and one pajama request with their size.  These can be returned wrapped and clearly labeled or unwrapped with the name and we will wrap them.

We also want to give the 18 staff members that serve one home and the 9 that serve the other a $20 gift card.

In addition, we hope to provide a Christmas Eve meal to the staff and residents that are at the home that day.

This is a strictly volunteer effort and our NBCA members have been very generous in the past.  This year, we hope to make our resources stretch even further.

Send a $20 gift card of your choice.  We want to keep all the denominations the same.

Donate money so we can purchase unclaimed wishes and gift cards and make a donation to Johanna's Hope.

I will bring the wish tree to Cindy's Holiday party on Dec 14 if you would like to choose at that time, but keep in mind we need all the gifts by Dec 20th, so we have time to organize and deliver.  I will have a donation box on my porch by the end of this week that I will clear out regularly.
