Mike's North Fork Moment of the Month
I’ve never been as aware of how much our view of the sun shifts over the course of the year as I’ve been since moving to the East End of Long Island. In the dead of Winter the sun was setting so far to the south that I barely noticed it. Now, as we get nearer to the time of the vernal equinox - in just a few weeks - the sun is close to setting to the north of the bluffs to our west. To me this is the icing on the cake of all the other signs of spring that will have appeared by then. And of course by Summer it will be setting far to the right of the URT pier and attracting sunset-watchers to Iron Pier Beach.
Cliche or not, everyone loves a good sunset photo - myself included. This particular one was taken in April a few years ago right from our own backyard.
