Mike's North Fork Moment of the Month
If we’re going to get any kind of meaningful snowfall this Winter I’m willing to bet it will be this month. In a very unscientific survey of my photos a clear majority of compositions with snow were taken in February.
I seem to remember that in our first ten or so years on the East End - in the early 2000’s - we got measurable snow on a fairly regular basis in the Winter months. On those days I would hop in the car and drive around to some of my favorite areas in search of snowy North Fork tableaus. “Three Trucks” is among my favorites. It was taken on Oregon Road and frames one of those “out to pasture” lineups of vintage potato trucks that dot the landscape. Here they appear to stand stoically under a coating of fresh snow while guarding a dormant farm field behind a length of red snow fencing.
I’m a little conflicted about actually wishing for a snowstorm, but maybe I’ll hope for just one - with exactly enough cover to be as pretty as a picture.
