Kathy's Korner--Resorts are Out--for now
The Town Board adopted the comp plan update at its meeting on the 4th and the Agritourism resorts are not a part of the plan. So for now the threat has been removed. I do believe some members of the Board believe they have left themselves wiggle room to come back to them, but that will be down the road. For now, a victory.
The forum on September 18th on has been cancelled. A lot of work remains to be done, however, if the Town wants to continue its efforts to preserve its farmland. Preservation requires money and creative creative ideas. The hope is the Town will create a task force comprised of residents, farmers, financial minds, entrepreneurs and planners who can come up with some solutions. It also needs to be a regional group as Riverhead needs the help of surrounding Towns who will also benefit from preservation along the Sound Avenue corridor. If you have expertise or know of someone who fits the bill, please let me know. I will pass your name along.
Here's a summary of the Town Board meeting.
